In Matthew 19:13-14, little children were brought to Jesus, “… for him to place his hands on them and pray for them.” The disciples rebuked the children for interrupting what they considered a serious discussion with their Master. But Jesus chastised the disciples saying: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

This verse shows the priority Jesus places on children. Not only does He order His disciples to make a way for the children, Jesus makes a distinct parallel between children and heaven.
In Mark 9:37, Jesus said: “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”
The Bible lays out a clear mandate for all Christians to care for children and the poor. When we do this, we are not only ministering to children but to God as well.
